HEAVEN IS THE ETERNAL DWELLING PLACE OF THE RIGHTEOUS
(God's children will inherit heaven as their eternal home)
1. Heaven is not for the wicked, who are their own lord or for those who serve other gods.
Galatians 5:19-21 Now the works of the flesh are evident, which are: adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lewdness, idolatry, sorcery, hatred, contentions, jealousies, outbursts of wrath, selfish ambitions, dissensions, heresies, envying, drunkenness, carousing, and things like these, of which I forewarn you, just as I have forewarned you, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.
Ephesians 5:5 For this you know with certainty, that no immoral or impure person or covetous man, who is an idolater, has an inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and God.
Revelation 22:15 Outside are the dogs and the sorcerers and the immoral persons and the murderers and the idolaters, and everyone who loves and practices lying.
2. Heaven is a place of eternal rest.
Revelation 14:13 And I heard a voice from heaven, saying, “Write, 'Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord from now on!'“ “Yes,“ says the Spirit, “so that they may rest from their labors, for their deeds follow with them.“
Hebrews 4:3-9 For we who have believed do enter that rest, as He has said: “So I swore in My wrath, ‘They shall not enter My rest,’” although the works were finished from the foundation of the world. For He has spoken in a certain place of the seventh day in this way: “And God rested on the seventh day from all His works”; and again in this place: “They shall not enter My rest.” Since therefore it remains that some must enter it, and those to whom it was first preached did not enter because of disobedience, again He designates a certain day, saying in David, “Today,” after such a long time, as it has been said: “Today, if you will hear His voice, Do not harden your hearts.” For if Joshua had given them rest, then He would not afterward have spoken of another day. There remains therefore a rest for the people of God. For he who has entered His rest has himself also ceased from his works as God did from His.
3. Paradise or Abraham's Bosom, the realm where the righteous dead were waiting the resurrection of the body, before Christ resurrection. After Jesus fulfilled the law by being the perfect sacrifice (His blood not only covered, but forgave the sin of those who believe and follow Him) those who die in Christ, will go straight to heaven, where Paradise is now, where their Lord is. In 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18, Paul says that if someone dies in the Lord, is still alive.
2 Corinthians 12:2-4 I know a man in Christ who fourteen years ago--whether in the body I do not know, or out of the body I do not know, God knows--such a man was caught up to the third heaven. And I know how such a man--whether in the body or apart from the body I do not know, God knows-- was caught up into Paradise and heard inexpressible words, which a man is not permitted to speak.
Luke 23:43 And Jesus said to him, “Assuredly, I say to you, today you will be with Me in Paradise.”
Revelation 2:7 "He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To him who overcomes I will give to eat from the tree of life, which is in the midst of the Paradise of God.”
4. A heavenly country.
Hebrews 11:16 But as it is, they desire a better country, that is, a heavenly one. Therefore God is not ashamed to be called their God; for He has prepared a city for them.
5. The Father's house.
John 14:2 “In My Father's house are many dwelling places; if it were not so, I would have told you; for I go to prepare a place for you.”
6. The kingdom of Christ and of God.
Ephesians 5:5 For this you know with certainty, that no immoral or impure person or covetous man, who is an idolater, has an inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and God.
