Is it possible that the dragon of Revelation 12, the beasts of Revelation 13 and 17, as well as the four beasts of Daniel chapter 7, are the same in some manner?
For the first half of my walk with the Lord, I have to admit, the book of Daniel was my favorite. All the books of the Bible are important, but in the book of Daniel, one can see so much. How the judgment of God could require that a good and wise young man like Daniel be taken into captivity as his city and homeland fell into the hands of the enemy, both spiritually and physically . We can see how God protected him, not just from the lions but from the wicked and their ways. We can see how God took what the devil meant for harm for Daniel and the Lord consistently turned it for good.
And because Daniel was so faithful to the Lord and His integrity, Daniel found great favor with God. And the Lord used Daniel and his prayers to help Jerusalem and Daniel's people to be restored. And the Lord used Daniel to help all who would read his writings for hundreds of generations, even to this day. And God used Daniel to leave word for the people of the last of the last days.
About 600 years later, God would call out another young man for His purposes. The beloved disciple, John, like Daniel, had a much similar kind of heart and mind. They both followed after the Lord from their youth, had great wisdom and made themselves listeners of God's daily direction as opposed to just being religious. Both laid their lives down to the Lord and both were given long lives. Both were given dreams and visions for future, including the last of the last days.
Though the book of Revelation was in my Bible, it never grabbed me like the book of Daniel, that is until I felt this huge call to understand the truth of the last days and in learning the gravity of it, to try to get the word out and dispel some of the many myths within (and without) the body of Christ.
I really believe that if anyone wants to know the truth about any of the facets of life, the answers are in God's Word. His truths are available to all of us. This is a broad statement because when we take a closer look, there are hindrances we all face in order to learn and grasp His truths.
Such hindrances usually come just from being human. We use our human logic and naturally look at things from our own cultures, educations, ages, etc. One of the greatest blessings of learning, comes from learning with the “measure of light” that we have. Each time we learn or experience something, it becomes part of the resources we draw from in our hearts and minds. One new thing can shed great light on everything else. Which in turn, changes other things. And so we go through our lives with our ever increasing measures of light. This is how it works for us as Christians. It also works “negatively” for those who reject the Lord and His voice that has always been reaching out to them. The Bible says that to those who are wise with what the Lord gives them, He gives more. And to those who are not, He takes away. What is often missed, is that this applies to “reasoning” (Matthew 13:11-13). Just try to reason with a fool. One does not become a fool by accident. And if someone is wise in the Lord, they are easy to reason with. Most of us are somewhere in between one extreme or the other but we are all either going forward or backwards, even if we have little roller coaster spots along the way.
We have to be “open to the Lord enough” that He can correct wrong ideas and even sometimes wrong foundations that we might have learned. If we are not, then we will not be able to move forward in the affected areas. When it comes to eschatology, this really matters for all of us, as only truth builds upon truth. With these thoughts in mind, I will share my thoughts about the dragon and the beasts.
The beasts involved are of Daniel 7, Revelation 12, 13 and 17.
If you have not read these chapters recently, I suggest stopping and reading them again. I will give Scripture involved, but it really helps to read the Bible verses fresh again.
In Daniel 7:1-7, Daniel saw four wild beasts coming up from a great sea, being stirred up by winds. Right away, many will say, oh this is from humanity because the sea represents people. I say, maybe, maybe not. It is a dangerous thing to mix up a “generality” of something and believe that it is “necessarily always so.” I do not believe the sea that Daniel saw was a normal earthly sea with normal sea creatures rising from it. Daniel was seeing in the Spirit and I personally believe Daniel saw spiritual types of creatures.
So, Daniel saw four beasts consecutively come up of this sea, with the fourth one being the most dreadful. What this monster did not crush with his horrendous teeth, he crushed with his terrible feet (Daniel 7:7).
There are some striking similarities to what John saw in Revelation 13:1-2. The descriptions of the beasts are different but the one in book of Revelation had feet like a bear and teeth like a lion.
So how could they be the same beast? Of the fourth one that Daniel saw, he did not even describe its head. Of the one that John saw, he was amazed as he saw it had 7 heads.
Just consider this. In Revelation 12, one of the most mysterious chapters in the entire Bible, the fiery red dragon there has 7 heads (with 7 crowns) and 10 horns. This dragon represents Satan. His hierarchy includes 7 rulers with 7 crowns and 10 horns (sub-rulers of some kind). The creature of the dragon is simply the representation of the devil's empire as seen in the spirit world.
Now let us go back to Daniel. There were four beasts.

His hierarchy includes 7 rulers with 7 crowns and 10 horns (sub-rulers of some kind). The creature of the dragon is simply the representation of the devil's empire as seen in the spirit world.
Now let us go back to Daniel. There were four beasts.
These beasts represent the devil's kingdom in some way. In this case, it is important to disregard the “commentaries” and “added words” of men that we find in many of our Bibles. Just consider what Daniel saw and recorded. When people try to humanize these beasts into world empires, it starts down a path, in my opinion, that leads to nowhere.
So, when we put all the beasts of Daniel 7 together, we have 7 heads and 10 horns. Cumulatively, this would be bear-like, lion-like and leopard-like with some wings, the heart of a man (made to stand like one too) and instructed to devour, given dominion and went about doing it.
Consider the fiery dragon of Revelation 12:1-12,
Now let's go to the beast of Revelation 13:1-10.
John saw: 1 beast, 7 heads, 10 horns but now, the 7 crowns (as of the dragon of Revelation 12:3) have increased to 10 and were not on his heads but upon his 10 horns.
Before we tie it all together, let’s throw in one more wild beast.
In Revelation 17, John saw in the Spirit again, this time he saw a scarlet beast (with names full of blasphemy) with 7 heads and 10 horns (and the mother of harlots & the abominations of earth was being carried by it).
There's no mention of crowns until the angel gives the interpretation towards the end. In verse 12-13 it says:
It would seem to reason, that the crowns were temporarily absent because later they would receive their “kingdoms or kingdom authority” of some kind.
Notice the angel also said this in verse 13: “These are of one mind, and they will give their power and authority to the beast.” In a sense, this is exactly what the fiery red dragon did also. He gave his power, throne and authority to the beast of Revelation 13:1-10. In the latter part of verse 2, it says:
Notice also, in the first part of verse 2 it says that the beast was like a leopard, his feet were like the feet of a bear, and his mouth like the mouth of a lion.
Are the beasts of Daniel sounding familiar? They should. The dragon has a kingdom of his own. And in it, there are the kings (with kingdoms) that represent these beasts. They do not have to look like earthly empires of the past. One demon king might have ruled through many pharaohs or Caesars or kings that passed down their crowns through their families. These demon kings make up the top ranks of the devil's empire. This cannot be seen in the flesh. And who would want to see it? Neither Daniel or John enjoyed seeing it, but the Lord chose them to be the messengers to the rest of us.
So in the age we are in now, the dragon will be passing his kingdom to the beast. And this beast still has 7 heads and 10 horns. Just think for a minute. If you have a 7 headed anything, it can only go in one direction at a time. Only one head can be the one in the lead and the other 6 must follow, otherwise it will not be able to move. And under the devil's direction, they will go. The devil, who is the dragon, will turn his hierarchy over to one of his underlings (one head) and the rest will cooperate and all will be given orders by the dragon, the devil.
And wherever the beast is seen in Scripture it is the same hierarchy, but different views of it, at different times under different circumstances. I do not have all the answers but this much I believe is certain and true.
Now to the horns. For the most effective power and to fulfill the enemies purposes, the 10 horns must work with the one head that is in power. In Daniel we see them on the 4th beast.
Praise the Lord, Daniel was given some interpretation on these matters.
We can see that this is global as it devours (the whole earth), tramples and breaks it in pieces. We can see that it is given authority even over the saints. We can see that somehow 10 horns arise from this “kingdom” plus the 11th one, with the 11th one being “different than the rest” and he will subdue 3 kings.
There is an article about the Antichrist being the 8th king, shown in three sections of Scripture, which one can read to understand this in a greater measure. For simplicity's sake, this “king/horn” is counted as the 8th. The calculation: 10 + 1 = 11; 11 – 3 = 8.
Now let's look at the beast of Revelation 13:1-10 again.
So, what about the heads? Some try to say the head in verse 3 above, represents a human empire such as the revived Roman empire. I think, on the contrary, this head was a demon ruler in an evil hierarchy that “was” before. But this head is not just any ruler. This demon ruler/king has been set aside for sometime now. His name is Abaddon/Apollyon (first name shown is Hebrew and the second name shown is Greek). For more understanding about it, there is a message about him called, The Antichrist, His Identity And Name. For now, let us surmise that the devil, Satan, once had a high ranking ruler of his that God put in “the pit” for some reason. I personally believe “the pit” has been the place for especially bad demons or evil spirits that refused to stay within boundaries put down by God. So, "the king" of “the pit,” which is also called “the abyss,” as shown in Revelation 9:11 has been Abaddon. He must have been a very, very, wicked demon to qualify for that and he is scheduled to be released from there to become the beast.
In Revelation 11:7 we see that Abaddon/Apollyon is the one who kills the Two Witnesses (after their testimony is finished, it will be allowed).
The reason he is called “a head” in Revelation 13:3 which says, “one of his heads as if it had been mortally wounded, and his deadly wound was healed” is because he is literally that. Abaddon is the head that will be moving the beast. The devil, the dragon will give him his power, his throne, and great authority. So if he is one of the seven (but also the 8th, Revelation 17:9-11). It means that this “head” will have a second rule. And this evil head, will be “the head of the beast” that directs it (of course under his dragon king's direction).
I cannot explain it all and do not pretend to have all the answers. I just believe that when Satan fell, he took others with him. And from his entourage (other rebels of Father God) he set up his evil hierarchy. They operate 24 hours a day in the spirit world here and above us, with us not having a clue to the makings and working of this kingdom of darkness. We know there are “demons of this” or “demons of that” but how many actually have to have hosts to possess or oppress or how many supervise or who supervises them from what sections and how many rule over them...etc., we are clueless to the details of what goes on there. It affects us all but we cannot see them with our physical eyes. But through Daniel and John, we have been given a glimpse and by the Lord's mercy, He is showing us a glimpse of some of what will happen in the last seven years of this age.
In the book of Daniel, I believe “Abaddon” was (will be) the 11th horn. It may seem strange, but that horn was actually described in all four beasts. He removed three horns (remember the three ribs in the bears mouth and again it also told of three horns removed from their places when he became the eleventh but without those three, he then became the eighth). In the first beast, he had his wings removed and was made to stand like a man and with a man's heart. He was given “dominion” and told to “devour.” In the 11th horn of the last beast, “were eyes like the eyes of a man, and a mouth speaking pompous words” Daniel 7:8. He was blasphemous in the Old Testament and he is blasphemous in the New Testament. The iron teeth and feet that stomp and crush the residue of what is left, are what the “head, the horn, the beast or the dragon” who is behind it all will do. While Satan is one entity, Abaddon another, the false prophet another (most likely a human though) and the other heads and horns all individuals: they will all unite for the devil's last stand of this age, each doing his best with their plans. Their hope and efforts will be short-lived because Jesus Christ is still the King of kings and the Lord of lords. He will allow these things to happen for His purposes and once the rapture happens and the events at that time, such as the sealing of the 144,000 Jews for their protection... the Lord will rain down his wrath on whoever the enemy is and whoever sided with him. And when the Lord comes to take the earth back for the Second Coming, He will destroy them all. The beast and his false prophet will be cast alive into the lake of fire (not the abyss) and the devil will be put away for 1000 years in the abyss. There will be people born during the Millennium and after the Millennium's conclusion, the devil will be released for his final round and their time of testing. And when that time is over, his next stop will be the lake of fire... forever. Hallelujah!
In closing, I am not saying that these demonic kings (and kingdoms) have not manifested in the flesh before along with their horns; I am merely saying that there are fallen angels in an evil hierarchy of the devil and that they do whatever evil they can and also manipulate humans to further the kingdom of darkness. I am also saying that the dragon will put his hierarchy in the hands of “the one” who is the 11th horn of Daniel who is also “the beast” of Revelation 13 and in the same chapter, he is also called “the head” (as in the controlling head) who also in the same chapter, is called “the first beast.” He is also “the scarlet beast” of Revelation 17 as in it, the “dragon’s empire” is entrusted to him and he is the same one that the 10 horns will give their power and authority to in Revelation 17:13. We can also tell by Revelation 17:16-18 that they are the 10 horns involved in burning the “Babylon the great, mother of harlots and of the abominations of earth” and the same 10 horns who will also try to stand against the Lord at the Battle of Armageddon as shown in Revelation 17:13-14.
So, when we put all the beasts of Daniel 7 together, we have 7 heads and 10 horns. Cumulatively, this would be bear-like, lion-like and leopard-like with some wings, the heart of a man (made to stand like one too) and instructed to devour, given dominion and went about doing it.
Consider the fiery dragon of Revelation 12:1-12,
- Revelation 12:3 And another sign appeared in heaven: behold, a great, fiery red dragon having seven heads and ten horns, and seven diadems on his [7] heads.
Now let's go to the beast of Revelation 13:1-10.
John saw: 1 beast, 7 heads, 10 horns but now, the 7 crowns (as of the dragon of Revelation 12:3) have increased to 10 and were not on his heads but upon his 10 horns.
- Revelation13:1 Then I stood on the sand of the sea. And I saw a beast rising up out of the sea, having seven heads and ten horns, and on his horns ten crowns, and on his heads a blasphemous name.
- Revelation 17:3 So he carried me away in the Spirit into the wilderness. And I saw a woman sitting on a scarlet beast which was full of names of blasphemy, having seven heads and ten horns.
There's no mention of crowns until the angel gives the interpretation towards the end. In verse 12-13 it says:
- Revelation 17:12-13 “The ten horns which you saw are ten kings who have received no kingdom as yet, but they receive authority for one hour as kings with the beast. 13 These are of one mind, and they will give their power and authority to the beast.”
- Revelation 13:2b The dragon gave him his power, his throne, and great authority.
Notice also, in the first part of verse 2 it says that the beast was like a leopard, his feet were like the feet of a bear, and his mouth like the mouth of a lion.
- Revelation 13:2a Now the beast which I saw was like a leopard, his feet were like the feet of a bear, and his mouth like the mouth of a lion.
Are the beasts of Daniel sounding familiar? They should. The dragon has a kingdom of his own. And in it, there are the kings (with kingdoms) that represent these beasts. Now to the horns. For the most effective power and to fulfill the enemies purposes, the 10 horns must work with the one head that is in power. In Daniel we see them on the 4th beast.
- Daniel 7:8 I was considering the horns [10], and there was another horn, a little one [11th], coming up among them, before whom three of the first horns were plucked out by the roots [-3]. And there, in this horn [#8 now], were eyes like the eyes of a man, and a mouth speaking pompous words.
Praise the Lord, Daniel was given some interpretation on these matters.
- Daniel 7:23-25 Thus he said: "The fourth beast shall be a fourth kingdom on earth, which shall be different from all other kingdoms, and shall devour the whole earth, trample it and break it in pieces. 24 The ten horns are ten kings who shall arise from this kingdom. And another shall rise after them; he shall be different from the first ones, and shall subdue three kings. 25 He shall speak pompous words against the Most High, shall persecute the saints of the Most High, and shall intend to change times and law. Then the saints shall be given into his hand for a time and times and half a time.”

- Revelation 13:1-10 Then I stood on the sand of the sea. And I saw a beast rising up out of the sea, having seven heads and ten horns, and on his horns ten crowns, and on his heads a blasphemous name. 2 Now the beast which I saw was like a leopard, his feet were like the feet of a bear, and his mouth like the mouth of a lion. The dragon gave him his power, his throne, and great authority. 3 And I saw one of his heads as if it had been mortally wounded, and his deadly wound was healed. And all the world marveled and followed the beast. 4 So they worshiped the dragon who gave authority to the beast; and they worshiped the beast, saying, "Who is like the beast? Who is able to make war with him?" 5 And he was given a mouth speaking great things and blasphemies, and he was given authority to continue for forty-two months [this is equal to a time, times and half a time; 42 months or 3 ½ years= all the same]. 6 Then he opened his mouth in blasphemy against God, to blaspheme His name, His tabernacle, and those who dwell in heaven. 7 It was granted to him to make war with the saints and to overcome them (Daniel 7:25b). And authority was given (Daniel 7:6) him over every tribe, tongue, and nation. 8 All who dwell on the earth will worship him, whose names have not been written in the Book of Life of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world. 9 If anyone has an ear, let him hear. 10 He who leads into captivity shall go into captivity; he who kills with the sword must be killed with the sword. Here is the patience and the faith of the saints.
In Revelation 11:7 we see that Abaddon/Apollyon is the one who kills the Two Witnesses (after their testimony is finished, it will be allowed).
- Revelation 11:7 When they finish their testimony, the beast that ascends out of the bottomless pit will make war against them, overcome them, and kill them.
The reason he is called “a head” in Revelation 13:3 which says, “one of his heads as if it had been mortally wounded, and his deadly wound was healed” is because he is literally that.
